The mission of the Digital Academic Press of California State University, Sacramento, has several provisions:
The CSUS Digital Academic Press will publish important works, exclusively in paperless formats, on many subjects that might not otherwise find their way to scholarly and academic communities. In doing so, the Press will collaborate with other institutions, agencies, conventional publishers, small presses, and research and educational entities within and beyond the CSU system.
The Press will have a significant, positive impact on the scholarship of California State University, the largest university in the world, and provide an attractive publication option for CSU faculty.
The Press will help raise the excellence, stature, and prestige of digital academic and scholarly publications.
The Press will help promote the worldwide reformation of scholarly communication processes that will return oversight of those processes to the academic community.
The Press will demonstrate that academic libraries are at the center of the reformation of scholarly communication. Academic libraries possess the superior technical expertise, extensive digital experience, and editorial abilities to reorganize scholarly communication around a variety of new digital models. Libraries have perennially collected and provided access to printed forms of scholarly communication, and they are uniquely suited to provide the same types of services in the digital domain.
The Press will develop new forms of digital texts that can exploit the technological advantages of electronic formats by incorporating reader-logical features not possible in print publications. The intention is to advance the utility of electronic texts to maximum functionality. |
